Women Chanters in Byzantine Music :
"Teaching and Conducting a Women's Byzantine Choir" by Sevi Mazera - Mamali PhDανδByzantine - Ecclessiastical Compositions were originaly written for men's voice. During the last decades numerous women have been studying Byzantine Music in Music Schools in Greece and at Consercatories (ecclessiastical, municipal or private). Many women have allready acquired a Diploma in Ecclessiastical Chanting from great Greek teachers. The need of women's appearence in Churches in order to replace an empty analogium because of the lack of man chanters is a sign of the times. The reapperance of many man byzantine choirs at the Greek Orthodox Church, the Byzantium Typikon way and the study and artistic presentation of the repertoir of byzantine and post - byzantine composers, have created the need for all those women chanters to try to get toghether in chanting groups and participate in Orthodox ceremonies and present concerts of Ecclessiastical Chant.
The 1th Symposium of Women Chanters of estern Orthodox Chant and 1th Festival of Women's Byzantine Choirs will take place in VOLOS GREECE, 22 - 24 November 2019 is dedicated to 'Saint Cecilia' and gives the opportunity to orthodox women chanters to meet, get to know each other and discuss issues such as voice intonation, Issokratema, women's voice worm up, repertoire etc. |
